Malina contains no formaldehyde and nothing that releases formaldehyde when heated. A stylist can do the service all day with the iron on; the client can sit through it without the sting. That is the whole point of the system, and every other decision follows from it.

Plant proteins instead of animal keratin

Most smoothing treatments rely on keratin taken from animal hair, feathers, or wool. Malina replaces it with plant-based proteins that do the same job inside the hair — argan, baobab, chia seed, macadamia, coconut, avocado, and more. The result is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and it holds up: One & Done delivers up to three levels of curl reduction and lasts up to five months, with a three-month average.

TourMALINA

Tourmaline is a gemstone that carries a negative charge. Infused into every Malina product, professional and home care alike, it counters the positive ions in dry and damaged hair: balancing pH, neutralizing static, controlling volume, easing friction on the strand, and helping product reach the cortex. It is where the name comes from, and it is why the home care line is not an afterthought — it is how a three-month result stretches toward five.

Honest about the formula

Malina formulas contain hydrolyzed wheat protein and are not gluten-free. Most gluten sensitivity relates to ingestion rather than topical use, but clients with concerns should check with their doctor before a service.
