- Is Malina really formaldehyde-free?
- Yes. No formaldehyde and no ingredients that release formaldehyde when heated. That is the point of the system — safer for the stylist doing services all day and for the client in the chair.
- Is it vegan?
- 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Most smoothing systems use keratin sourced from animal hair, feathers, or wool; Malina uses plant-based proteins that work the same way inside the hair.
- Is it gluten-free?
- No — formulas contain hydrolyzed wheat protein. Most gluten sensitivity relates to ingestion rather than topical use, but clients with concerns should check with their doctor.
- Will One & Done work on blonde or compromised hair?
- Yes, with the adjusted protocol: rinse 100% of the product and keep the iron at 350–375°F maximum. For extremely compromised hair, do a strand test first.
- Will my client lose volume?
- Volume is a function of pass count and temperature. Six to eight passes preserves volume with less curl reduction; ten to twelve passes gives the straightest result.
- Can a pregnant or nursing client get the treatment?
- There is no research showing the treatments are dangerous during pregnancy or nursing, and the official position is to have the client consult their physician first.
- Does the home care work after other smoothing brands?
- Yes. Classic Mineral Shampoo, Conditioner, and Mask are positioned as cross-brand maintenance and are recommended after keratin and other Brazilian smoothing systems as well as after One & Done.
